Dr. Marija Liepiņa bērnu ķirurģijā aizvadījusi 50 gadus, visu darba mūžu bijusi uzticīga Bērnu klīniskai universitātes slimnīcai, atdevusi dzīvību un veselību tūkstošiem pacientu. Darbojusies jaundzimušo un bērnu krūškurvja orgānu ķirurģijas jomās, ir vairāku bērnu ķirurgu darbaudzinātāja.

Asoc. prof. Jānis Dobelis ir Latvijas bērnu uroloģijas attīstītājs, ilgus gadus RSU docētājs, studentu un rezidentu skolotājs, izcils ķirurgs un divu mācību grāmatu autors. Kolēģi savu darba mūžu atdevuši Latvijas bērnu veselības veicināšanai un bērnu ķirurģijas attīstīšanai, saņēmusi valsts apbalvojumus.

Aleksandra Bieziņa balva izveidota 1987. gadā ar mērķi godināt izcilus Latvijas bērnu ķirurgus par nopelniem bērnu ķirurģijas attīstīšanā, sasniegumiem praktiskajā un zinātniskajā darbā. Balva ir augstākais profesionālais apbalvojums bērnu ķirurgam. Līdz šim ir pasniegtas piecas šādas balvas. Kandidātus balvas saņemšanai izvirza Latvijas bērnu ķirurgu asociācija, balvu piešķir apbalvojumu piešķiršanas komisija.

Aleksandra Bieziņa balvas pasniegšanas ceremonijā piedalījās LR Veselības ministre Ingrīda Circene, LĀB prezidents Pēteris Apinis, ārsti, kolēģi un pacienti.
