18.novembra pievakarē vairāki tūkstoši Latvijas patriotu pulcējās tradicionālajā lāpu gājienā pa Rīgas ielām.

Lāpu gājienā piedalījās gan ģimenes ar bērniem, gan visu paaudžu un dažādu tautību Latvijas iedzīvotāji, kā arī ārzemnieki. Pat dabas spēki bija labvēlīgi – vēl īsi pirms gājiena sijāja lietus, bet sākoties gājienam, tas mitējās. Skanot patriotiskām dziesmām, lāpu gājiens aptuveni stundu vijās pa Rīgas centra ielām un noslēdzās tā sākuma vietā – pie Kārļa Ulmaņa pieminekļa.
