Saeima Valsts prezidenta amatā ievēl Edgaru Rinkēviču

Saeima trešdien, 31.maijā, Valsts prezidenta amatā ievēlēja Edgaru Rinkēviču. Atklātā balsošanā, balsojot ar vēlēšanu zīmēm, trešajā vēlēšanu kārtā E.Rinkēviča kandidatūru atbalstīja 52, bet pret bija 35 deputāti.

Saskaņā ar Satversmi Valsts prezidents ir ievēlēts ar ne mazāk kā 51 balss vairākumu.

E.Rinkēvičs kopš 2011.gada ieņem Latvijas ārlietu ministra amatu. Viņš ir arī Apvienoto Nāciju Izglītības, zinātnes un kultūras organizācijas Latvijas Nacionālās komisijas viceprezidents, kā arī valdes loceklis partijā “VIENOTĪBA”.

E.Rinkēvičam ir Latvijas Universitātes Vēstures un filozofijas fakultātē iegūts bakalaura grāds, kā arī maģistra grāds politikas zinātnēs un ASV Nacionālās aizsardzības universitātes Bruņoto spēku Nacionālo resursu stratēģijas industriālajā koledžā iegūts maģistra grāds nacionālās drošības resursu stratēģijā.

Valsts prezidenta amatam bija izvirzīti trīs kandidāti: Elīna Pinto, Uldis Pīlēns un Edgars Rinkēvičs.
