Šodien, Valsts valodas dienā, es aicinu jūs pārdomāt, ko katram no jums nozīmē mūsu latviešu valoda. 

Vairumam tā ir dzimtā valoda. Mēs dzīvojam latviešu kultūras vidē. Tā pastāv tikai šeit – Latvijā. Tā nepastāv nekur citur pasaulē. 

Caur valodu mēs atpazīstam sevi, izjūtam sevi kā latviešus. Tāpēc latviešu valoda ir gan mūsu prāta, gan mūsu sirds valoda.

Arī citas valodas noteikti ir jāmācās un jāzina, lai neiznāk tā, ka cilvēks tā īsti nezina nevienu valodu un atstāj vienkārši pusmācīta cilvēka iespaidu.   

Tieši no jums ir atkarīga latviešu valodas – tātad visas mūsu valsts nākotne. 

Lai valoda pastāvētu, tajā jālasa un jādomā, jārunā un jāraksta. Tajā ir jādzīvo.
